AR: Great! Congratulations.

AR: What was Larry Summers like as a student?

RE: I had him as an undergrad and we have been friends forever.  He was very bright.  It was always a question whether you had his attention or not because his mind was so quick.  He's had a full-range of very interesting experiences, I'm really excited to see what he does next.

AR: What was it about Stern that prompted you to leave the best weather in the country?

RE: Well, I didn't come here for the weather, that's true.  I came because I study financial markets and San Diego is a long ways away.

AR: Over the past decade what have you enjoyed most being here?

RE: It's been incredibly exciting to be at Stern, my students are in the markets all day and it's easy to meet important market players.  My colleagues are interesting, my students are interesting and the city is interesting – that all compensates for the weather.  Stern has also taken a leading role in understanding the financial crisis and the regulatory issues that followed, I completely enjoy that!

AR: Professor Engle, thanks for your time.

RE: No problem.
