Thirty-one golfers gathered in Brooklyn last Sunday for the Fall Classic at Dyker Beach. Co-sponsored by Stern Golf and the Part Time Leadership Forum, the event featured an 18-hole round of golf with individual prizes, a team competition, and a banquet dinner in the course clubhouse.

Pete Chun led the first group out by staying even par through 14 holes and posting the low score of the day (75). His playing partner Jason Mak drained a birdie putt on the 2nd hole, while Louis Goldstein sunk a bird on the 6th hole and Matt Akers posted the 2nd highest Stableford score (13) for Team Dollar.

The second group dominated the 15th par 5 hole with three consecutive birdies from Charles Klein, Vidrik Frankfather, and Brad De Voogd. Also in the group, Jim Turzer posted the third high Stableford score for team Yen (17). Yusuke Kurosaki lead the third group with a string of four consecutive pars through the turn, while Eben Gregory, John Hughes, and Wade Hazelton all posted top five scores for their teams.

Dean Fraser headed up the fourth group with Alex Reinlieb, who smashed a 280-yard drive on the 13th hole to win the longest drive competition, and Jason Levine, who took closest to the pin by hitting a five iron to within 2' 3" of the pin on the 8th hole.

Matt Lemieux, Colin Meagher, and Charles Epstein rounded out the fifth group along with prospective student Brian Nave. Christopher Lentz lead the sixth group of Matt Venzin, Aravind Indramohan, and Sandra Harya with an 82 through 15 holes until play was suspended on account of general hunger.

Local course pro Sal Frasca provided on-course instruction to our final two groups of Andrew Dailey, Avi Levin, Ted Elnekaveh, Pam Koo, Andy Lin, May Cheng, and Raynelle Mensah.

The team competition was decided by an aggregate of the top five Stableford scores from each team. In Stableford scoring, golfers earn positive points for each stroke below a double-bogey per hole, which limits the damage a single bad hole can inflict on your score. Teams were selected during the Stern Golf club kickoff in September with Team Yen (Purple Core, Block 3, Blue Core), Team Dollar (Orange Core, Red Core, Block 1, Brown Core), and Team Pound (Block 2, Green Core, Block 4) which was combined with Team Euro (Block 6, Yellow Core, Block 5) to even the playing numbers.

Team Yen took first place with 103 Stableford points; the combined Team Pound-Euro claimed second place with 83 points; and Team Dollar took third place with 59 points. Top individual Stableford scores were Pete Chun (32pts), Bradley De Voogd (25pts), Vidrik Frankfather (21pts) and Jason Levine (20pts). Thanks to everyone who came out for such a memorable day of golf!
