Winner Paolo Cavallino took home the title of 2012 Stern Poker champion on Sunday.   Our champion PhD in economics shrewdly built his stack until the blinds raised to $2k/$1k when he eliminated finalist Hank Chang with a paired ace.  Professor Harry Chernoff lasted deep into the tournament, until running into Hank’s full-house of 8s over 7s.  Donald Lim also made a strong showing, frequently hammering away at opponents with big raises until raising all-in into a flopped pair of Queens late in the tournament.

Our grand prize winner, Paolo took home a football signed by Raven’s star running-back Ray Rice and Redskins legendary “Head Hog,” George Stark.  Hank Chang took home the runner-up prize of a baseball signed by baseball ace Felix Hernandez.  The prizes were generously donated by tournament beneficiary, Let’s Get Ready.

While turnout was lower than anticipated, the action was fast paced with a great atmosphere.  Our players raised approximately $500 for Let’s Get Ready, money that will go towards helping prepare high school students for college.   Special thanks to Professor Chernoff and our awesome poker crew who made this event possible.   This was the first Stern Charity Poker tournament since 2010 and we’re happy to have set the stage for an even bigger and better event next year.
