On one of the snowiest days of 2010, twenty students from the Emerging Market Association arrived at the office of Zephyr Management to discuss one of the hottest themes in investing. The group sat around the well-known Zephyr board table to listen to Tom Barry, CEO of Zephyr, and Stephen Canter, COO, speak about their strategy for investing in emerging markets and some of the challenges they face.

After camping out for two hours to beat the crowds, I had the pleasure of attending Wednesday's interview of former Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson given by Morgan Stanley Chairman John Mack in the John Paulson Auditorium. This event was a great example of the amazing educational opportunities afforded to us as members of the Stern community, and is the kind of gem I go out of my way to attend.

Twenty Stern Langone and full-time students had the amazing opportunity to visit HBO offices in midtown last Friday, March 5. The group was greeted and escorted to the HBO viewing room on the 6th floor.

Before the panelists arrived, the recruiting manager showed the group a five-minute video that highlighted the programming that HBO offers, after which the group was introduced to extremely successful panelists.

What do an ultra-rich Manhattanite and an ultra-poor Bangladeshi woman have in common? They both still receive personal attention from their banker. According to Citi Microfinance's Global Director Bob Annibale - speaking at Stern on Friday March 5 for the New Challenges in Microfinance conference - while most clients today rarely meet face to face with someone from their bank, these disparate income segments remain in constant contact with their bankers, though for vastly different reasons.

With a blizzard one week and temperatures in the upper 50s the next, New York City in March seems very confused. It’s so disappointing to break out the spring wardrobe and cast off your winter coat only to realize it’s a false alarm. Though it may be too soon for flip flops and shorts here, the stores are chock full of airy sunny spring merchandise – and it’s all just in time for spring break.

Tom Hanks could not have announced the winner sooner. Yes, it was a time bomb waiting to happen, and in a way it exploded prematurely. Even the announcement of the best live action short had more stage time… and we're talking about The Best Picture here!

Kathryn Bigelow, who is the first woman in history to win an Oscar for Best Director, even said: "There's no way to describe it, it's the moment of a lifetime", and then within an hour her film nabbed the biggest prize of the evening.
