The Office of Alumni Relations & Development would like to congratulate the Class of 2008 on your upcoming graduation and welcome you into the alumni community. Have you ever wondered why graduation is called a commencement? Because graduation is the beginning, not the end, of your career, your adult life, and your membership in a very exclusive community of Stern alumni. With nearly 75,000 alumni living and working in more than 100 countries worldwide, there is hardly a major business or industry anywhere that does not include Stern graduates in its ranks. Stern's alumni in major cities around the world constitute a truly global network, providing information, advice, and networking opportunities to fellow Stern graduates and current students. The best is yet to come - for you and for Stern.
STAY CONNECTED As you start the next chapter of your professional life, we encourage you to stay connected to the Stern community. Alumni Relations Website
www.stern.nyu.edu/alumni
The Alumni Relations website is your gateway the NYU Stern global alumni network. Visit the website to log on to SWAP and to get up-to-date information on programs and services available to Stern graduates. Read about upcoming events and visit photo galleries. Volunteer for a mentor program, catch up on news from the School, or visit class notes to read about personal and professional milestones from fellow graduates.
Online Alumni Directories The Alumni Relations office has established two ways to stay connected online with the alumni community: SWAP - the Stern online alumni community, and LinkedIn - an online professional networking site that can help you identify and leverage professional opportunities. This year, we are working in partnership with LinkedIn to provide Stern alumni with additional opportunities to connect with each other and the Stern alumni community.
It is important to note that the NYU Stern LinkedIn group operates independently of SWAP - the Stern online alumni community. The two systems do not transfer data or share information. To keep your contact information up to date with the School, activate your e-mail forwarding for life, take advantage of exclusive career resources and learn about upcoming alumni events, please visit SWAP.
In addition to being an online directory, SWAP provides valuable tools to stay in touch with the Stern network, including class notes; a comprehensive calendar of events and RSVP tool; and online management of your profile, including the ability to update your contact information. SWAP also has two career resources that we encourage you to explore: the Career Center and the Stern Business Information Directory (SternBID), a suite of online business databases, academic journals, newspapers, and other resources, which was made possible by a generous gift from MBA Class of 2006.
As MBA students, some of you may have taken advantage of the opportunity to sign on to SWAP. If you have logged on to SWAP as a student, be sure to visit again after graduation to check out the expanded features and tools which will be available to you as an alumnus/a. If you need assistance logging on to SWAP or to request your user information, please contact the SWAP hotline at (212) 998-0669 or swap@stern.nyu.edu.
Alumni Events and Programming As part of the NYU Stern global alumni network - alumni are invited to participate in the many dynamic and innovative programs. These include industry panels and global alumni conferences, as well as social and networking opportunities ranging from corporate receptions to the Annual Stern Alumni Ball. Remember to update your SWAP user profile with your new home and business contact information to be sure to receive invitations to these events and important updates from the School. You should always check the online calendar of events for a complete listing of updated programs and activities.
GET INVOLVED NYU Stern offers a broad portfolio of programs and services designed to help alumni get involved and have an impact on the future of the School. Alumni can get involved in the Stern community by mentoring students, volunteering their skills and talent, and becoming engaged in the academic life of the School.
CAP: Career Advisory Program CAP is the online career mentoring program, available through the Career Center in SWAP, where alumni can volunteer to serve as a mentor for fellow alumni and/or current students. Through one-on-one interaction, via e-mail, phone or in-person meetings, alumni share their knowledge, experiences and provide industry insight regarding careers, industries, and organizational cultures.
Committees of the Alumni Council The NYU Stern Alumni Council has formed several network/community building committees to serve the needs of the alumni community, including Entertainment, Media and Technology (EMT), Investment Management, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Alumnae and Black/Hispanic. In addition, planning committees are formed throughout the year to assist with outreach on events, including Reunion and the Annual Stern Alumni Ball. Please visit our website for a comprehensive listing of volunteer opportunities.
NYU Stern Alumni Regional Groups For those of you leaving New York City after graduation, we encourage you to get involved with the regional alumni group in your new hometown. There are currently 60 regional groups in more than 30 countries worldwide. Please visit the Alumni Directory and Networking section of the Alumni Relations & Development website for a full listing. Alumni are continually coming forward to organize groups and activities, so check back often for updates. If you are interested in starting a regional group in your area, please contact the Office.
