The democratic process has a way of stirring one's patriotic spirit, whether it's casting your vote for that dude with the mullet on American Idol, or trying to choose on which count to impeach Governor David Patterson (squashing a police investigation? Lying under oath? Improper receipt of Yankee tickets?). Well, now it's our turn to make our voices heard, in our very own SCorp elections.
A couple of positions are open to both full- and part-timers, but most are exclusive to one or the other. And believe me, we're gonna have a great SCorp Board next year. I can already tell. I've gotten to know the Class of 2011 quite well, and I'm proud to call each and every one of them my very best friend in the world. I've also had an opportunity to get to know the part-time community a little bit through those that currently serve on the SCorp Board, and they are awesome folks. Anybody that can hold down a full time job and go to school and be active in Student Government has gotta have mad multi-tasking skillz.
For those who are not running - please make sure you vote. The candidates are putting themselves out there, and we should at the very least take the time to get involved in the process by casting a ballot.
Election time is also a good reminder about how important it is to stay involved with the school on the club level. We are at the time of year where so many of us have our group of friends, the people we go to lunch with and partner with in study groups and hang out with at beer blast. Clubs continue to offer us a way to expand our networks and friendships. As our class of MBA 2s gets closer to graduation day, I find myself looking to get to know the members of my class whom I don't know as well. I wish I had been doing that since day one. It's kind of like spending a summer in France boozing it up, and during the last week you are frantically leafing through your French textbook, realizing that you're about to miss a phenomenal opportunity to actually learn a foreign language. (Or maybe that was just me?)
These relationships through the clubs are what will carry you well past graduation. And you'll be hanging out with people who share the same values or interests, which, I promise you, will reap tremendous rewards for years to come.
I'm preaching to the choir a little bit, I know. The Class of 2011 has been extremely active this year. But I'm telling you, there are always more people out there to get to know. You'll be glad you did. And that comes with the SCorp money-back guarantee.
