IT Complaints - If you make them, resolutions will come. But you must speak up!

Techteam I remember my very first frustration with IT - it was the good old locker registration system on day 1. Second, was wireless and printing failures. Third, was a lack of administration's response to the many issues we faced. Anyway, you know what I'm talking about! The only thing that kept me from blowing up was that I met our Student/IT Liaison and she rolled with the punches. After that cathartic experience, I was invited to join Stern's Techteam, which comprises the CIO, Deputy CIO, Dean Fraser, IT admins, professors, and more importantly, students. What are the chances you knew this committee existed?

There are currently 8 MBA students on Techteam, including the VP of Technology from SCORP, and we take the gloves off on your behalf. We meet monthly as a whole group and every two weeks as part of the sub-committees (Support, New Products and Services, and Communications). But we too benefit from knowing your IT frustrations - this is how to share your thoughts with us:

#1. General IT Feedback (i.e. what are your biggest pet peeves) - email suggestions@stern.nyu.edu. This filters through SCORP to the Techteam.

#2. Specific IT issues that need immediate attention: email helpdesk@stern.nyu.edu, call 212-998-0180, or visit UC-120. This goes directly to IT, which allows immediate resolution of your issue. Subsequently, Techteam reviews the breakout of all submitted helpdesk tickets.

#3. Join Techteam - email suggestions@stern.nyu.edu to get on the invite list.

New Printers Seven new printers were installed in KMC during the month of January, replacing some outdated printers prone to breakdowns. Additionally, Techteam is currently evaluating new back end printing systems to replace the current one. More to come on that.

New Meeting Reservation System Did you find it strange that to reserve a meeting room (i.e. study rooms on 2nd and 4th floors) you had to hunt through Sternlinks to find the system, and then wait a day to receive confirmation of your request? Well, no more! Come Monday we will use eCampus to make these reservations. Benefits include: 1) Instant approval, 2) Automatic email to your meeting guests, 3) Elimination of Paper sign-in, and 4) Enforces meeting room rules. Look for an email with all the details.

But if you remember nothing else from this article, please note that unless you voice your opinion in a way that will reach IT, then chances are it was wasted effort. So next time you want to express your frustration, which is highly encouraged, take a moment to email suggestions@stern.nyu.edu. On the other end you'll find fellow students who feel your pain and want to represent you within IT.
